InSite by AlertSite wraps several of the vendor's monitoring tools in a single package that can be deployed by the customer wherever needed to accomplish targeted performance monitoring. For example, the product can be deployed internally (behind the corporate firewall) to monitor the performance of network applications not visible outside the organization; or could be deployed at the customer's client location to obtain objective performance data for the customer's Web applications utilized by that client for purposes of SLA mediation or troubleshooting. It can be deployed as software or hardware.
InSite includes all the features of four of the vendor's individual monitoring products.
Web Site Performance Monitor periodically tests Web site URLs (as often as once a minute), with alerting (E-mail, cell phone, SNMP, SMS, telephone call or pager) on page errors or performance problems. Features include time-based alert routing, full-page content monitoring (including page components such as Flash), and breakdown of metrics (DNS, TCP connect, first-byte received, redirect, etc.).
Business Transaction Monitor, which includes technology that the vendor describes as "inside-the-browser" monitoring--script-based monitoring that tests individual business transactions from the user's browser-based perspective. Called Dejaclick, the technology allows for the building of test scripts via the capture of a user's actual browser interactions; test scripts that can then be used to monitor the application on an ongoing basis.
E-mail monitor, which can be configured to both send (SMTP) and retrieve (POP) an E-mail message periodically and generate error alerts if the round trip cannot be completed. Alerting options are the same as Web Performance Monitor above, and the vendor notes that the product provides drilldown diagnostics for each step of the communication.
Server Availability Monitor, which provides monitoring for specific server or Internet devices with alerting capabilities. Features include the ability to create exclusion time periods for scheduled maintenance windows; support for escalation policies; and daily management summaries.
In addition to the new InSite package, each of the above tools is also available directly from the vendor as a separate service.
