The Covalent Enterprise Ready Server (ERS) is a package comprised of the Apache 2.0 Web server (see related link below) and multiple additional components targeted to simplifying the management and deployment of Web servers in multi-server environments, such as those often found in larger organizations. According to information provided by Covalent, ERS can be used to centrally deploy, manage, and monitor hundreds of individual Apache Web servers and thousands of virtual hosts throughout the Enterprise.
Key components in the ERS package include the Covalent Management Portal, enhanced authentication and authorization routines, and Covalent Logging Services.
The Management Portal allows a single administrator to deploy, manag,e and monitor multiple Apache Web servers from a centralized location. Both logical servers and virtual hosts can be managed via this component.
Covalent states that ERS contains enhancements to Apache's existing, standard authorization and authentication routines, the Covalent Authorization and Authentication Services. ERS provides multiple authorization options, including Oracle, LDAP, and NIS. Additionally, ERS incorporates the RSA B-Safe libraries for SSL encryption.
Finally, the Covalent Logging Services allow administrators to control the data collected from multiple servers; including the ability to consolidate multiple Web server logs.
In addition to the Apache binaries and the previously mentioned components, other ERS modules include the Tomcat 4.0 Java server, Covalent User Tracking, Covalent SSL, Covalent FTP, Covalent SNMP, PHP and mod_perl.
Covalent ERS is available now, with a price of $1,495 per CPU. Contact Covalent for further information.
