Tekadence Magik

Tekadence Magik is both a product, and an underlying technology.

The Tekadence Magik product has been described as "Visual Basic for Java." It's an application authoring tool that enables the WYSIWYG creation of Java software, including standalone applications and client- and server-side software. It uses a visual object design metaphor and intuitive point-and-click tools, within an innovative no-compile environment. It allows drag-and-drop importing of pre-existing Java code, databases, multimedia objects, and interface elements, and one-click integration of Web Services and other network-based objects. Finished applications can currently be published to run as standalone Java software; in addition, Tekadence is working on translators that will allow Magik applications to be output in a variety of other object-oriented languages, including DHTML, Macromedia Flash, MPEG-4, and Microsoft C#.

It is the underlying Magik technology that allows for applications to be output in a variety of languages. This technology represents what Tekadence believes is their second major business opportunity: creating licensed versions of Magik for makers of emerging hardware devices and software platforms. Tekadence believes that manufacturers of these devices and platforms--which include 3G cellular phones, other wireless and handheld devices, and set-top boxes for digital cable--require robust content creation tools for the success of their products. Tekadence believes that the cost, difficulty, and time required to develop these tools from scratch makes the option of licensing a version of Magik customized to their platform an extremely attractive one. Tekadence believes Magik has the potential to become the primary content creation tool for a variety of emerging hardware devices and software platforms.
