ABYAN IDE

The ABYAN IDE (which in this case stands for Internet Development Environment) is a developer's platform that allows them to create modularized Web sites.

Rather than focus on the concept of building individual Web pages, ABYAN sites are built on individual components called "Active WebCells" that themselves can contain nearly any type of typically displayed Web data (text, links, images, video, etc.) Information displayed in a WebCell can be retrieved from existing data sources, including SQL or Oracle DBs, and the maintenance of WebCells can be distributed to work teams or non-technical users. Further, ABYAN states these WebCells themselves can be used by individual users in the creation and customization of their own personal or group pages.

WebCells are displayed to end users via ABYAN's dynamic rendering engine (the AIDEngine) which is capable of optimizing the content display based on the requesting device; i.e., both wired and wireless devices can view the content of a WebCell properly in their browsers without requiring specific alterations on the part of the content author or developer. WebCells can also support password protection for sensitive data.

The development platform, which supports multiple programming languages including Visual Basic, Visual C++, and Visual J++, consists of two primary components: the aforementioned dynamic rendering engine AIDEngine, and the hierarchical Data Structure that stores the templates, applications, and WebCells created by the developers.

The ABYAN IDE Standard Edition is available now as a free technology preview for Windows NT. Future planned developments include an Enterprise version that will enable dynamic connections between multiple related sites, and Linux/Solaris versions. Contact ABYAN for further details.
