iPlanet Integration Server

The iPlanet Integration Server, EAI Edition, consists of a centralized business process engine and multiple application specific adapter modules enabling the communication and integration of individual E-Business applications. The core messaging infrastructure of the product utilizes XML data representations transmitted over an HTTP messaging backbone; with the individual adapter modules providing the necessary data-to-XML-to-data conversions necessary for each application. Specific application adapters are available for Netscape Messaging Server, Oracle Applications 11, SAP R/3, and DB2 for OS/390, among others. Additionally, an SDK is available allowing developers to create their own adapters for existing applications.

In addition to its core focus on XML, the product suite supports XSLT data translation, a standardized method of translating XML documents to and from one another. With XSLT, the vendor can claim "...support for, and integration across, any dialect of XML from any source..." and cites as examples OASIS, BizTalk, and RosettaNet.

Key features of the platform include native support for the Java Messaging Service (JMS) API and HTTPs support. The latest version (redubbed the "EAI Edition") also supports SOAP and includes LDAP directory/iPlanet Message Queue integration. The iPlanet Integration Server, EAI Edition is a core component of the iPlanet Integration Platform; which also includes the iPlanet Integration Server, B2B Edition (which combines the products formerly known as iPLanet ECXpert and iPlanet TradingXpert and adds JMS support and Message Queue integration) and the iPLanet Message Queue for Java (see related link below).

The EAI Edition is expected to be available in early September with pricing beginning at $40,000 per CPU. The B2B Edition is expected in late September with a price of $100,000 per CPU. Contact iPlanet for further information.
