AutoCAD, a popular computer-aided design product for 2D and 3D design and drafting, has been updated and released with Internet specific features. The product is available in 2 flavors: AutoCAD 2002 and AutoCAD LT 2002, with the LT version being a lighter version focused on less experienced designers or those requiring only 2D functionality. LT allows designers to view 3D creations, but only design in 2D.
AutoCAD 2002 includes features enabling collaboration and communication across geographically disperse design teams via the Internet/Intranet. The opening AutoCAD Today screen lists a user's recently accessed projects, as well as provides direct access to a team-wide bulletin board and Autodesk's Point A CAD portal and community. The Publish to Web feature allows designers to instantly publish their designs in an HTML based format that can be viewed from the Web via a free browser plug-in, or as simple JPEG files. Other key features include Microsoft NetMeeting based instant collaboration functions, a transmit function for sending entire design sets electronically, and i-drop, which allows users to drag and drop specially formatted design files from a Web page directly into their AutoCAD desktop.
AutoCAD 2002 is available now. Visit the Autodesk Web site for further information.
