WebCapture is a complete system that allows e-businesses to capture or "record" transactions as they occur on their Web site. Recorded transactions are stored in an Oracle8i based central repository, where they can be searched using field-based or full content search mechanisms and "played" back when necessary. Billed primarily as a customer service or cstomer self-help tool, recorded sessions can be used both by customers and corporate representatives to assist customers with transactions they have initiated on a site, or resolve potential legal disputes by providing a concrete record of the transaction itself.
WebCapture consists of four components, which can be implemented on multiple operating systems and Web servers.
At the heart of the system is the Oracle8i based Central Repository, which is where information captured from e-business transactions is stored for later retrieval. The repository sports a J2EE/EJB compatible infrastructure, and offers both an XML-compatible index and support for LDAP compatible directories.
The other components in the system include the Session Monitor, which runs on the Web server (including Microsoft, Netscape, and Apache) and performs the actual HTML recording and storing of data; the Graphical Administration System for the configuration of the Session Monitor, and the Retrieval System that allows for the search and retrieval of stored sessions and transactions. The Retrieval System displays its results as Java Server Pages and can be accessed via the Web.
